ActiveX 429 Automation Error Bug

Oh, the ActiveX 429 is a good error to read about if you have insomnia.  Nothing will put you to sleep faster than listening to programmers talk about this one.  Just try to Google ” ActiveX 429 ” to find some excellent discussions that sound like complete gibberish for the average pc user.

The ActiveX 429 error is a runtime error that frequently pops up when you are trying to automate a sequence from a Microsoft application like C++ or Visual Basic.  The ActiveX 429 seems to be happening to people who have a newer Windows platform and they are using an older application version.

A registry cleaner can re-register application programming for you.

If you’ve got the ActiveX 429, you are probably trying to take data from somewhere, import it into an application, and then manipulate that data automatically somehow, right?  When you try to make this process automated, your computer tries to create Activex Objects.  But if you get the ActiveX 429 runtime error “ActiveX Component can’t create object,” then there is a glitch somewhere in your system that will prevent you from automating the desired sequence.

And when I say glitch I mean a mistake in programming code. In the computer tech lingo, it’s a “bug.” It may be the glitch is in the application itself – perhaps a dll needs to be updated to compatibility or re-registered.  Or the glitch could be in the system configuration – could be you need the Microsoft Scripting Engine to complete your automation sequence.  Or you have a missing or damaged component like an incompatible registry entry.

Unless you are very comfortable digging around in registry values and core programming lines, the ActiveX 429 is going to be a doozy of an error to fix.  Start by getting all the updates from Microsoft, including any patches or hotfixes for the specific applications you are trying to automate.  Get the scripting engine and register it.  A registry cleaner can be helpful in re-registering files, if you don’t know how.

If those simple steps don’t solve your problem, you are going to need:
1. a computer tech who really knows their stuff and works cheap, or
2. to uninstall Microsoft Office and then reinstall it

Because fixing this error can be time-intensive and requires locating and manually updating code, you may find that the repair isn’t worth the cost.  After all, you can simply complete the automation you are after by manually using the menus in the applications.  It is usually the attempt to AUTOMATE a process that triggers ActiveX 429.

If it is a pernicious problem and it is really important that you automate the sequence you are after, then take a half day to do the backups and reinstallation of the whole Microsoft Office Suite.  That’s likely to be your best fix.  Good luck as you work on this ActiveX 429 bug!
