DLL Missing File Error
If you are getting the error that says DLL missing file, then you have entered into the damaged PC registry zone. Or “DLL hell,” as programmers say.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that the (dynamic-link library) dll missing file is not the worst error to fix. It’s important to fix, but not impossible. You may have lost the dll file to malware (like a virus or worm), or the dll file may have been corrupted during a glitch-y install or update.
It is a pretty common error.
There is a software that can fix it in 10 minutes – Go See!
Since some DLL files in some operating systems are shared across multiple programs, you could be getting dll missing file errors in a completely unrelated program to the one that caused the problem.
Never fear. Here’s what to do:
1. Run your anti-virus. If malware ate your dll file, you need to find the virus or worm and remove it before you do any repairs. Or else the malware will continue to chow down on your pc data, and you’ll see many, many more errors!
2. Run your registry cleaner. It will identify and report which files are missing. If the dll file can be repaired, your registry cleaner will repair it. Be sure to save the list of missing dll file names your registry cleaner generates! You may need it if you have to go to step four.
Don’t own a registry cleaning software? It’s a must-have for pc maintenance. Get a free scan from a reputable registry cleaning software here.
3. Uninstall/Reinstall – If the files can’t be repaired (completely devoured by malware, perhaps), then you can uninstall the program associated with the dll missing file and reinstall the program. This will restore the dll file. It is always good practice to backup critical data and files before reinstalling major programs!
4. Replace DLL – If you can’t reinstall the program and thus the dll missing file from a download or disc, you can find many individual dll files on the Internet. Type the exact name of the dll missing file (from the list your registry cleaner generated) into Google. Use quotes to get the best results on your search. Many specific dll files are available for download.
Once you’ve downloaded and unzipped your dll missing file, you can reinstall it into the exact registry key it is missing from. However, this is a tricky process, since some dll files are repeated in 20 or 30 different places in your pc’s registry. If you have a dll missing file that you can’t figure out where it goes, try #5 instead.
5. Restore – First, save all your files and data. Figure out a date BEFORE the first time your dll missing file error occured. Then do a system restore from that pre-error date to return your pc to the condition it was in on that date. You should run your registry cleaner again in order to see if any dll missing file messages come up. But your registry should be okay if you picked a good date.
That should help you eliminate your dll missing file error problem. If you want an intensely technical discussion of dll files, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dll_files – WOW! It’s like another language.
