Windows Svchost Error Fix

A Windows svchost error is a serious and aggravatingly vague error.

Windows svchost errors come from your registry.  The registry is a segregated database inside the Windows platform that holds instructions telling your computer how to run, how to communicate between software, how to communicate between hardware, and it also holds user settings that tell your operating system who has access to what applications.

Microsoft has been using the registry in Windows platforms since 1995.  The idea of the registry was to keep people from accidentally or casually wandering around in and messing with the files that control core functionality of their system.

There is software designed to fix registry errors like the Windows svchost error – learn more here.

The instructional commands in the registry are held inside dll (dynamic link library) files.  Any given dll may serve one software application or multiple applications.  When you get the Windows svchost error, you’re computer is having problems with the svchost.exe file that READS dll files.

This is where the “vague” problem comes in.

Is your problem with the actual svchost file?  Or is the problem with one of the many dll files the svchost.exe is trying to read?  Either way, the Windows svchost error can consume the CPU resources of your pc, leading to massive slow downs and/or crashes.

Damage to the svchost file itself may be the cause of your Windows svchost error.  If you recently had a power surge or shut down your system forcefully while programs were still running, that could damage a svchost file.  Also, malware like viruses and worms love to target the svchost file, because it is so important to the function of your operating system.

Running an anti-virus is a good first step in dealing with the Windows svchost error.

A good second step is to get current on the Microsoft Windows updates.  Microsoft creates specific patches and hot fixes for Windows svchost error problems, too.  If you can identify the specific application related to your Window svchost error, you can download the fix from Microsoft.

If your svchost file itself is corrupted, or if the dll files are damaged and resulting in that Windows svchost error, the next easiest step is to get the software fix for damaged registry files: a registry cleaner.

Registry cleaners are a type of software that specializes in maintaining an undamaged registry.  A registry cleaner identifies invalid entries, empty keys, corrupted pathways, and other trash in the registry.  Registry cleaners scan and repair dll files.  A registry cleaner fixes screwed up svchost.exe files.

Please note that I said “next easiest” step is a registry cleaner.  A registry cleaner will scan and repair your registry in under 10 minutes.  And it is dead simple to do and comes with a money back guarantee.

But you could also learn to manually tweak your registry.  And get your masters degree in computer science while you are at it, I say.  It is quite a skill to learn and will take some investment of time.  Manually accessing the registry is tricky business, and deleting or replacing in the wrong file or value in the wrong place can blow your whole operating system.

Even the computer pro’s use registry cleaners.  I got my first registry cleaner program a few years ago when I took my pc into the repair shop and found it loaded onto my computer when I got home.  (I guess they forgot to remove it. Lucky me!)

So if you are getting a Windows svchost error, I recommend these steps:
1.  Run your anti-virus software
2.  Get current on Microsoft updates
3.  Download the specific Microsoft fix for your error, if you can identify it
4.  Download the free diagnostic scan of your registry to see if you’ve got dll or svchost file damage.

If you’ve got damaged files, you can watch RegCure find them and fix them.
